“The three videos I’ve selected are not official, nor are they even all that professional. These videos were made by fans, friends, or blogs. I’ve always been enamored by the DIY scene. I’ve realized over the past year or so since making shorts that you don’t need fancy cameras, Steadicams, and expensive software to send a message or tell a story. As a 17 year old, I cannot afford equipment, so I make due with a Nikon D90 and iMovie ’08. A simple camera and editing software is all you really need.”

A Canadian friend introduced me to Esther Rimbaud, who is the singer in this video. Esther got a friend to film him singing one of his original songs in a park. Simple, yet elegant. His work is generally amazing.

Phoenix – “1901″ – A Take Away Show

The newlyweds at 2:19 makes the video even more breathtaking/bold than it already is. More bands need to play on city streets — isn’t that where much of talent we so love is generally first discovered? Simply composed, yet strangely, and rightfully, complex.

Life is Flashing Before your Eyes

Vince Collins is brilliant — one of the best animators ever. This is such an underrated video. Every second of footage correspond with the lyrics. It’s truly stunning, and you feel euphoric after watching it. Collins’ other work is also worth a look (see “Malice in Wonderland“)
