1 – Dimi Mint Abba Music Mauritanie

“dimi mint abba is a singer from mauritania. her voice is totally unique, and she plays a harp instrument called the ardin, and i assume that the guitarist in this is her husband khalifa ould eide, who sounds like jimi hendrix if he grew up in the middle of the sahara. this is pure moorish soul from a tradition that i am sure must have informed early american music way back in the day, and can probably still be heard in r&b and soul music today.”

2 – Имами Заман (Мамадали маддо)

“some of the strangest music in the entire world comes from the pamir mountains in tajikistan. the scales that pamiri music uses are totally unlike any other music anywhere. the notes are usually very close together, and sometimes will only consist of 3 or 4 notes in total. this tune uses three notes. my western mind wants to think that the middle note is the base note, but who the hell knows. the result of such a tight musical scale is some of the most haunting and unsettling shit imaginable. central asia is a mysterious place.”

3 – Dilni se erdhi Enveri – Grupi i te rinjve Gjirokaster

“this is a song for the albanian dictator enver hoxha at what i can only assume is some kind rally. albanian iso-polyphonic music reaches into the coldest darkest depths of my soul. the way the harmonies fluctuate and move around, above and below the drone makes me feel like if i were in the audience for this, i`d probably be moved to complete submission to the atheist regime. a perfect example of the magical, mystical and dangerous qualities of simple combinations of notes.”

About D’eon :

D’eon on Myspace

Radiator Collective on D’eon: “D’eon’s particular style of electronic music is refreshingly restraint, layering tracks at a calming and natural pace. We here in the western world have such short attention spans but Palinopsia takes its time and doesn’t feel rushed or padded for length. The keyboard licks and synthesizer melodies that Palinopsia is built on do not feel repetative despite repeating usually many times during the course of a song. From its opening intro washed in twinkly lead to the lil-wayne-esque beat of “To Kill A Man With a Joystick In Your Hands”, D’eon’s infectious brand of eastern-influenced house music had me dancing all the way through.”
