Guest Curator : three videos selected and commented by Porcelain Raft :
1 – Fred Frith/ Iva Bittová/ Pavel Fajt – “Morning Song” (1989)
“Bittova on this video sings with a morning voice, soft and calm, not to wake up herself. The violin enters and we know we are in a special place. I wish they would release ‘Step Across The Border’ on DVD, great documentary about Fred Frith and his musical journey. Pure gold”
2 – Thailand havy metal no 1
“What I like about this video is the idea of friends gathering in a market place to play a bit of acoustic doom metal. They don’t need mics or amps or anything, the spirit comes out clear and loud. One singer is ‘melodic’ and gentle the other one is a force coming from hell…just friends hanging out.”
3 – John Cassavetes on movie audiences
“This little extract from a Cassavetes interview doesn’t say much but says enough for me. I love his movies…here’s another quote that I hold dearly. “Most people don’t know what they want or feel. And for everyone, myself included, It’s very difficult to say what you mean when what you mean is painful. The most difficult thing in the world is to reveal yourself, to express what you have to… As an artist, I feel that we must try many things – but above all, we must dare to fail. You must have the courage to be bad – to be willing to risk everything to really express it all.”
